ISOLATION
This painting is about the Taiwanese butterfly, koi fish, apple, and austroboletus lacunosus.
Those mushrooms are an endemic species of fungi that have been discovered in a specific Australian region (NSW). The fish is representative of Taiwan, and the apple is there to symbolize Adam and Eve.
All 3 of those elements are representative of Massimiliano’s vision of isolation.
Taiwan is isolated because it is an island. The mushrooms are isolated because they can’t survive anywhere else because of the specific natural conditions. Adam and Eva must’ve felt isolated on such a big empty planet.
Massi believes isolation is more than an objective state; it's such a personal state of mind.
You can feel isolated even in such a crowded place.
